Mercedes-Benz has renamed the Valente to the Vito Tourer and given it a new engine and transmission and new standard features.

Out with the Valente and in with the Vito Tourer.

Mercedes-Benz has officially renamed the van-based Valente people mover to the Vito Tourer for 2022.

This move aligns with the global naming convention for the Vito range and future models, including the eVito Tourer.

Along with the new name, Mercedes-Benz has given the Vito Tourer a price rise, a new engine and transmission combination, and additional standard features.

Pricing for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer starts at $70,336 before on-road costs, which is a $4536 price increase over the outgoing Valente.

New standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows, velour floor mats, and seat cushion length adjustment.

The new Vito Tourer name and standard specifications will feature on all vehicles produced from March 2022 onwards, with the first vehicles expected to arrive for sale in May 2022.

Under the bonnet of the Vito Tourer is a new 2.0-litre OM654 four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

Outputs are unchanged, with 120kW of power and 380Nm of torque, and the old seven-speed automatic is replaced with a nine-speed unit.

Mercedes-Benz says the new nine-speed has a wider ratio spread “which can result in improved drive quality and fuel efficiency”, though local fuel economy figures haven’t been made available.

The company says the new engine includes a diesel particulate filter (DPF) closer to the engine block, allowing it to reach its optimum operating temperature quicker, while noise and vibration have been reduced.

New for 2022, besides the name, is the car’s turbo-diesel powertrain and transmission combination.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer is powered by a 2.0-litre OM654 four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 120kW of power and 380Nm of torque.

This new engine to the Vito Tourer incorporates a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and an all-aluminium construction. There are also improved noise and vibration characteristics.

The OM654 engine in the Vito Tourer is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which has two more ratios than the 2021 model year Valente, and sends power to the rear wheels only.

Mercedes-Benz Australia hasn’t revealed an official fuel economy figure for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer as of yet.

The Vito Tourer has a 70-litre fuel tank.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer measures 5140mm long, 1928mm wide, and 1914mm tall, with a 3200mm wheelbase.

With all the seats besides the front two removed, the Vito Tourer has a boot capacity of 3600L. Braked towing capacity is 2500kg.

Payload for the Vito Tourer is 766kg, gross vehicle mass (GVM) is 3100kg, and gross combination mass (GCM) is 5600kg.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer is covered by five-year/250,000km warranty.

Mercedes-Benz offers three different pre-paid service packages range from three to five years. Servicing is required every 12 months or 25,000km.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer has a five-star ANCAP safety rating, based on testing conducted on the Valente by Euro NCAP in 2014.

It scored 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupant protection, 67 per cent for pedestrian protection, and 85 per cent for safety assist.
